Description and Purpose of Device:
Boardmaker v.6 is software that allows an individual to create printed materials that are symbol-based like communication boards, schedules or sequential events for people with special needs such as children with autism, speech challenges, and learning disabilities.  It is designed to help students in the classroom meet their goals whether academic or social.
Device Usage and Features:
This software is highly used by educators, especially teachers in the classroom for their students with and without special needs, speech-language pathologists and other professionals assisting in the classroom.  It allows you to design your own materials with symbols in 44 languages and you have the ability to choose your own topics, labels, color borders, labels, languages to name a few.   The software uses and easy drawing program that features more than 4500 Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) in color and black and white pictures.  It is being used by educators to enhance the communication and learning of their students in the classroom.  It can create visual schedules for individuals with autism and social skills stories.  Communication boards can be created for non-verbal students along with symbol activities to promote reading amongst young readers as well as story boards for preschool aged children.  It also allows the import of your own picture images from your digital camera or the internet.  It can be used with PCs running Windows 2000, XP or 7 as well as MAC computers with OS X 10.4.11 or higher.
